Deep Mixed Column (DMM)

Deep mixed column is one an effective treatment method for improving the properties of the soft coastal clay, particularly controlling the ground settlement by ameliorating the strength behavior of the soil. The deep mixed method is one of the composite types due to the soil is mixed with other materials such as cementitous, chemical, or other material.

Deep cement mixing column was normally constructed by penetrating column into the soft soil layer and stand on the stiff layer or float in the soft soil layer to share the load due to the higher stiffness than the surrounding soil. An embankment supported by deep cement mixing column, the embankment load is transferred to column due to the arching effect and finally decrease the average settlement and differential settlement.

Report of Building Assessment in Term of Sustainable Construction

Hello everyone, today I would like to shared my group report about assessing of one existing building in my university campus concerning on the sustainable construction which a part of sustainable development. Talking about sustainable development, people may think about the environmental problems, otherwise, it also concern about the social need and economic which we try to compromise the these three issues in order to minimize the the negative cause to the environment and to reach people need. In addition in term of the sustainable construction, one more key issue, the natural resources, is added. As we all know that construction industry is one of the main factor that  affect to the environment. For example, the production of cement which is one concrete component used in the structure construction such as building, bridge, road, dam and other infrastructure. Producing a tone of cement generate nearly a tone of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission which which harmful to environment especially the global worming. Concerning in this problem, many develop country start to introduce the standard for investigate both existing structure and new project in term of the sustainable construction to assure that those projects will less or no harmful to the environment. Regard to this report, I would like to give a great gratitude to Professor Ming An, who gave use such an interesting course of the sustainable construction. And also I would like to thank to my teammate who showing their hard effort to produce this report. I believe that there may still have some problems in this report, anyway, I hope that we can share this knowledge and idea to the reader and continue their research according to their interest.
